Mission Statement
The mission of the Crest Institute International Collaborations pillar is to broaden the institute’s reach across international boundaries to provide research and other collaborative opportunities for CUNY students and faculty and to open up CUNY to students, faculty and resources from around the world to allow for sustained growth in the future.
Vision & Goals
- To use all our College international contacts, agreements, etc. to expand the global collaboration of this pillar.
- Expand collaboration with other countries, not only with students but also with communities
- Increase international interactions among students, faculty, and educational leaders from all countries through all virtual platforms.
- Increase international collaboration of partnership between universities for a holistic development and well being of CUNY students and faculty across boundaries.
- Increase international research collaboration and impact of CREST methods and products, and provide international education opportunities for CREST and other students.
- To increase CUNY and CUNY CREST Institute profile on the international stage
- to increase CUNY students’ global civics, cultural, language and STEM skills
- To increase student mobility
- To increase sustainability of the institute through leveraging of resources from abroad
- To broaden research and other collaborations in areas of national and international
Short-Term Goals
- Collect Inventory of international resources and collaborations
- Become more familiar with faculty research areas and resources within CUNY campuses
- Write external grants NSF (PIRE, IRES), NOAA, NASA
- Develop online certificate and modules that can be offered abroad
Strategic Plan – Future Activities
- Pursue NSF PIRE funding opportunities (Cheila)
- Exchange program and develop world class faculty for different fields. Establish long term partnership (Paramita)
- More work in South Asia and perhaps the Caribbean (Nir)
- Research activities w/ Cairo Univ (Yasser)
- More collaborations w/ other universities in Egypt and to possibly help them to create a new department (environmental engineering and/or Science) (Yasser)
- Phase II of US Public Diplomacy Grant in Orissa, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana (Paramita and Neal))
- Year II and Year III of NSF IRES air pollution research project in Mumbai/New Delhi (Brian, Neal and Paramita)
- Dakar Senegal Weather Station/Climate Change project (June 2023),
- US Consulate Mumbai – Weather Station Project with Universities in Maharashtra in 2023 (Paramita and Neal)
- Trinidad and Tobago Weather Station upgrade project in 2023 (Neal and Paramita)
- Egypt STEM collaborations with University of Cairo (Paramita, Sunil, Neal, Kamal)
