About the Institute

The CUNY Remote Sensing Earth Systems (CREST) Institute was officially inaugurated on November 29, 2010, by the then President of the City College of New York, Dr. Lisa Coico.

The CUNY Remote Sensing Earth Systems Institute was officially approved by the CUNY Board of Trustees in June 2010. The goal of the Institute is to serve as a CUNY-wide Institute of Excellence in Advancement of Earth System Sciences and application of Remote Sensing Technology as well as other emerging technologies. The institute is designed to be a collaborative environment for faculty and scientists from different CUNY campuses to be able to work together in a variety of topics related to earth system sciences. The Institute serves as a major hub of outstanding interdisciplinary research across CUNY colleges. The institute’s collaborative environment will enhance the advancement of science at CUNY and will create opportunity to attract external funding and bring in new resources for the good of faculty, students, and CUNY as a whole.

The Institute Vision:

To become an international research and educational training hub through collaborative partnerships and advancing Earth System Science and Engineering through State-of-the-art Technologies.

The Institute Mission:

To develop environmental information and technical capabilities to study processes affecting the Earth System at multiple scales and assimilate Remote Sensing Observations and Modeling Resources into sets of Scientific Data Products and support CUNY’s Educational Mission by fostering Local, National, and international partnerships.
