To use earth system science & engineering to promote environmental and climate justice
- Improve our understanding of the social dimension of earth system problems
- Help build a just future through equitable distribution of environmental risks
- Facilitate participation of all groups in environmental decision making
- Mitigate the disproportional impacts of extreme events on disadvantaged communities
Mission Statement with some Initial Goals
To strengthen and capitalize on the CUNY-wide technical capabilities to:
- Improve our understanding of the social dimension of the earth system modeling and management; and
- Address environmental injustice through earth system science and engineering research, innovation, capacity development, and societal/policy outreach
