CREST Institute in collaboration with National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Center for Earth System Science and Remote Sensing Technologies (NOAA-CESSRST II) hosted a Python Workshop on February 19, 2025 in the Grove School of Engineering, the City College of New York. The purpose of the workshop which was led by Ryan Paul Lafler, Founder, CEO, Chief Data Scientist, and Lead Consultant at Premier Analytics Consulting, LLC, was to Efficiently Access, Deliver, Visualize, and Analyze Big Environmental Data in the Cloud.

During the engaging and productive one-day workshop, the attendees, who were mostly the early career professionals and students, learnt:

  • How to leverage Python and its libraries to access big climate repositories
  • Build pipelines to access high-resolution CMIP6 and NOAA’s RTMA datasets
  • Analyze & visualize data directly from Google Cloud storage and Amazon S3
  • Process big data, generating stunning visuals, and conduct efficient analysis
  • The new CESSRST II Climate Hub for Analytical Research and Monitoring (CHARM) project

In January 2025, Ryan had delivered the same workshop at the  105th Annual American Meteorological Society (AMS) Meeting in New Orleans, LA.

The workshop was well attended by NOAA EPP/MSI CESSRST II, CREST, and CCNY students, professionals, and faculty.
