CREST Faculty affiliate and Professor of Civil Engineering at CCNY, Dr. Naresh Devineni welcomed his new Postdoctoral Research Scientist, Dr. JaeUng Yu on January 2, 2025. Dr. Yu’s research focuses on Statistical Analysis between rainfall and Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO). He aims to use Bayesian regression methods to conduct his research. By analyzing rainfall data and its relationship with CSO and the CSO volume, and by incorporating future rainfall forecast data it is expected to improve the model’s accuracy in predicting CSO.

Dr. Yu finds Hydrological research through collaboration with the meteorology field innovative and fascinating. He said, “This field encompasses various processes, including stochastic downscaling, bias correction, and the assessment of hydrological impacts. I will work diligently to achieve significant results through ongoing research.”

Dr. Yu believes that unlike Korea, the United States has a vast geographic and diverse range of environments. He said, “I aim to study its water resource systems thoroughly, understand their impacts, and explore practical ways to utilize them.”

Dr. Yu graduated with a Ph.D. from Sejong National University in September 2024, South Korea. Most of his studies in Korea focused on floods. The research included updating design rainfall, reevaluating dams, and analyzing rainfall-runoff.

Dr. Yu expressed gratitude, saying, “Beginning my studies at CCNY is the first step toward achieving my goals, and I look forward to making the most of this incredible opportunity.”
