Dr. Andrii Golovin

Dr. Andrii Golovin is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at The City College of New York and is affiliated with the CUNY Research Foundation. He has extensive experience in optics, electronics, photonics, and electromagnetic systems, with research that combines advanced theory and practical engineering applications.

He earned his M.S. in Optics and Electronics from Kyiv State University in 1987 and later received his Ph.D. in Physics and Mathematics from the Institute of Physics of the Academy of Sciences in Kyiv, Ukraine, in 1994. His academic background established a strong foundation in optical engineering, electromagnetic wave theory, and advanced materials research.

At CCNY, Dr. Golovin teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses, including electronics, electromagnetics, semiconductor devices, antennas and waveguides, optical fibers, electric circuits laboratories, and probability and statistics for engineers. His teaching approach emphasizes connecting theoretical concepts with real-world engineering applications.

Dr. Golovin’s research interests include photonics, metamaterials, liquid crystal technologies, beam steering systems, antennas, imaging systems, and electromagnetic wave propagation. His work focuses on developing innovative technologies for communications, sensing, imaging, aerospace, and radar applications.

Throughout his career, he has contributed to research in hyperspectral imaging, terahertz metasurfaces, surface plasmon engineering, non-mechanical beam steering, and polarization control systems. His publications have appeared in leading scientific journals such as Optics Express, Applied Physics Letters, and Physical Review A. He has also contributed to patented technologies involving electromagnetic waveform analysis and airborne object detection systems.

Dr. Golovin has received several awards and recognitions for his scholarly and engineering contributions, including NASA Tech Brief Awards, a Certificate of Recognition for Outstanding Scholarly Achievements from CUNY, and awards from the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences and the Ukrainian Committee on Science and Technology.

Through his research, mentorship, and teaching, Dr. Golovin continues to contribute to advancements in photonics and electrical engineering while supporting the education and development of future engineers and researchers.
