Dr. Aliasghar Arab, CREST Research Associate, Hosts Connected-Robots Workshop and Presents at Innovation Stage at 2026 ICRA

Dr. Aliasghar Arab, Research Associate at the CUNY CREST Institute participated in the 2026 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA), held in Vienna, Austria in June 2026, where he hosted a technical workshop and delivered a presentation at the conference’s Innovation Stage.

Workshop on Connected Autonomous Robotic Systems

Dr. Arab served as a primary host and organizer of the highly competitive official ICRA 2026 workshop on Connected Autonomous Robotic Systems. The workshop focused on cloud-orchestrated multi-robot coordination, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) safety systems, and edge computing architectures for real-time autonomy. The session featured invited speakers from academia and industry, including Ken Goldberg, and reached full attendance capacity. The program included technical presentations, panel discussions, and live demonstrations evaluating real-time swarm planning under constrained network conditions.

Innovation Stage Presentation

Dr. Arab was also invited to present at the ICRA Innovation Stage. His talk, “From Philosophy Doctorate to Running a Startup: Lessons Learned,” examined the process of translating academic research into commercial applications.

The presentation outlined the development of robotic systems from ASAS Labs at the City College of New York into deployable technologies through General Autonomy. It highlighted approaches to improving safety in autonomous systems, including deterministic verification methods and risk assessment frameworks.

Dr. Arab’s participation at ICRA 2026 reflects ongoing research and innovation by CREST faculty affiliates in robotics, artificial intelligence, and autonomous systems, with applications across academic and industry domains.
