CUNY CREST Scientist, Dr. Erin Friedman received the 2023 Adaptation Futures fellowship for the September 6, 2023- October 6, 2023 period. The role entailed attendance at different conference sessions.
Commenting on her motivation to become a fellow, Dr. Friedman said, “I applied for this fellowship funding because Adaptation Futures is a very interesting and different conference compared to other venues. It brings high-level conversations on adaptation between academics, policymakers and practitioners, so it encourages a lot of learning exchanges. And since I couldn’t attend in-person this time, an opportunity to cover virtual costs was a huge help. But also, the organizing committee intended to make significant efforts to connect early career folks from around the world and encourage networking in the adaptation field.”
Dr. Friedman received the Connectivity Award on September 6, 2023. In an effort to reduce connectivity barriers and promote carbon conscious conferences, Adaptation Futures 2023 offered scholarships and enabled free virtual participation in the conference. Dr. Friedman added, “The award provided different early career engagements. One of the sessions that I attended was a discussion with IPCC authors on how early career academics can become involved in the next AR7 process.”
