CREST attended the 2024 Heroes of High Ridge Walk/Run & Family & Community Resource Fair organized by the New Pathways Academy in NY on November 23, 2024. Dr. Shakila Merchant, CUNY CREST HIRES Director along with CREST members; Mr. Cesar Ortiz, Office Manager, Dr. Vartika C. Saman, Research Scientist, and Ms. Srishti Tyagi, Communication Manager participated and CREST HIRES Mentor and NOAA CESSRST II graduate fellow, Mr. Richard Rivera.
During the District 9 resource fair at the Roberto Clemente State Park Gymnasium, CREST conducted outreach through its booth. More than 400 NYC public school students (grade 8 through 12) and their families learnt about several internship opportunities across NY city including the CUNY CREST High School Initiative in Remote Sensing of the Earth Systems Engineering and Sciences (HIRES), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Educational Partnership Program with Minority Serving Institutions (NOAA EPP/MSI) Center for Earth System Sciences and Remote Sensing Technologies II (CESSRST II), and the Earth System and Environmental Engineering (ESE) Program at CCNY. It was a productive recruitment & outreach event as CREST gears up for HIRES summer 2025 and impacts engineering and STEM focused students enrollment in Grove School of Engineering.
