The CUNY CREST Institute’s scientists seek to provide comprehensive solutions and products to address local, national and international environmental and Earth system challenges as it relates to climate resiliency, water systems, coastal hazards and other urban and global environmental challenges.
Goals
Cultivate a research environment within CUNY CREST that promotes integrated interdisciplinary research to address local, national, and international environmental challenges
Establish a rigorous externally funded portfolio for collaborative inter- and transdisciplinary research
Facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration opportunities around common themes for greater impact and visibility at local, national and international levels
Develop innovative products and solutions that address key stakeholder needs

Mission:
Position CUNY CREST as the premier research center in NYC for issues related to climate resiliency, coastal hazards and other urban and global environmental challenges
Partner with national and international networks who are addressing similar urban and global environmental issues
Short Term Goals
Survey CUNY faculty engaged in CREST-related research activities to assess interest and expand participation in CUNY CREST efforts
Research and data integration
Identification and initiation of a NYC-based integrated project where collective CUNY CREST research synergy can be showcased
Submit proposal(s) to support collaborative interdisciplinary research
Organize monthly seminars focusing on transitioning research to practice
The Institute research focuses on all aspects of remote sensing – sensor development, satellite remote sensing, in-situ and ground-based field measurements, data processing and analysis, modeling, and forecasting. Institute research covers a wide variety of topics including climate change impacts and climate adaptation, Weather and Water, energy, environmental justice, agriculture, coastal zone issues, and air quality. Our research is carried out through a number of centers, programs and Laboratories affiliated with the Institute.
