History<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The Center for Water Resources\u00a0and Environmental Research (CWRER), commonly known as The\u00a0City Water Center\u00a0<\/strong>was established in 1993 in order to meet the needs for interdisciplinary study and education in the area of the natural resources, water and environment. The Center is tackling the diverse and interdisciplinary problems of water resources\u00a0and environmental issues with broad approaches beginning with research on the sources of natural hazard, pollution movement, surface water and groundwater cleanup, wetland preservation, reservoir protection, watershed management, hydraulics and hydrology of natural flow systems, non point source pollution, preservation of ecology, and related topics. Included are both technical and social\/political issues arising from these problems.<\/p>\n

Objectives<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The Center\u2019s main objectives are:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • To conduct multi-disciplinary research on protection of the environment and minimization of pollution hazards to the water resources, hydrological and ecological systems.<\/li>\n
  • To develop and demonstrate new technologies for the treatment and disposal of natural water supplies and wastewater.<\/li>\n
  • To cooperate on the global scale to protect the precision resources that sustain human life.<\/li>\n
  • To educate and train personnel for management, supervision and operation of environmental and water resources management systems.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    The City Water Center Current Research Themes<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

    Droughts and Food Security:\u00a0<\/strong>This initiative is designed towards understanding the exposure of a region to climate and demand induced droughts\u00a0and developing supervised scenarios food security and to increase regional\u00a0resilience to periodic shocks.<\/p>\n

    Remote Sensing Floods<\/strong>:\u00a0This is motivated towards developing climate informed flood risk assessment using multitude of using high resolution radar data and geographic information systems.<\/p>\n
