{"id":236,"date":"2015-05-08T10:22:52","date_gmt":"2015-05-08T14:22:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/134.74.15.28\/?p=236"},"modified":"2015-10-09T16:09:08","modified_gmt":"2015-10-09T20:09:08","slug":"sustainable-farming-researchers-aid-nepal-earthquake-victims","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/crest.cuny.edu\/?p=236","title":{"rendered":"Sustainable farming researchers aid Nepal earthquake victims"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Article from Colorado State University blog, Source<br \/>\n8 May, 2015 by Kristen Browning-Blas<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/source.colostate.edu\/sustainable-farming-researchers-rally-to-aid-nepal-earthquake-victims\">Link to full article<\/a><\/p>\n<p>A team of researchers affiliated with CSU\u2019s Feed the Future Innovation Lab rallied colleagues, friends and family from around the world to raise funds and deliver essential supplies to villages devastated by the April 25 earthquake in Nepal.<\/p>\n<p>After the powerful earthquake shook the very foundation of their work \u2013 the land under their project farms \u2013 Tarendra Lakhankar, Ph.D., Jeeban Panthi and their colleagues launched into action.<br \/>\nNepal1.original<\/p>\n<p>Based at the NOAA-CREST Center at the City College of New York, Dr. Tarendra Lakhankar designed a website to communicate the facts of the effort and raised about $10,000.<\/p>\n<p>Like many people around the world, Tarendra Lakhankar, an environmental engineer and assistant professor of research at City College, was horrified by the news of a devastating earthquake in Nepal in April that killed more than 8,800 people, leveling homes and irreplaceable antiquities in the capital of Katmandu and the mountain villages to its north.<\/p>\n<p>Because the area was so devastated by the quake, Lakhankar and his team bought supplies in India \u2013 1,000 blankets, 1,500 kilograms of rice, 1,500 batteries and more \u2013 rented a truck and met a team of volunteers from Nepal at the India-Nepal Sunauli border crossing.
