Visit to the National Weather Service office
Long Island, New York
Our weather camp has unprecedented access to our local National Weather Service (NWS) office: several days of watching them at work, interacting with them during presentations, and even launching a weather balloon. The days are filled out with outdoor activities such as weather observations and micro-climate measurements, observing bouyancy at work with solar bags, even bbq lunches and visits to the beach to observe the sea breeze and enjoy the surf.
This is made possible by the generous efforts of the science officer at the NWS office, who welcomes us each year and pulls the staff together to show us how things really work.
